Springtime in Prague

Tomorrow is May 1. Which means it's another important holiday in the Czech Republic. It's Europe's version of Labor Day. It's also a rite of spring, which has something to do with stout poles, ribbons, flowers, and romantic sentiments. You have to hand it to the people of Prague--they are hardworking, but they love to celebrate.  It also means I don't have to go to work tomorrow. It's like waking up on a Sunday to find that a huge blizzard is raging outside, which means the next day will be a snow day--school will be closed! I took a short hike from my apartment this afternoon through some remnant beech-conifer forest to the town of Roztoky a mile or so north from the northwest corner of Prague (in Suchdol district), and down a long, gradual slope. There I found small groups of families heading under an archway toward what turned out to be yet another castle.
